Conference Value

Being the guy who was monitoring Twitter throughout this past weekend’s WordCamp Orlando, I was seeing real-time feedback not only on the sessions in particular but also the event as a whole.

If there was a consistent theme to some of that overall feedback and commentary I saw it’s that the $15 registration fee – which not only got you into the day’s sessions but also a t-shirt and other perks – was the best conference money some people had spent all year. Not only was that value being felt in the content coming from the speakers and the information and wisdom they provided but also in the conversations that were happening with fellow attendees.

Since WordCamps are, based on my limited exposure, all about acknowledging and empowering the community that makes WordPress as powerful as it is that sort of feedback is, to me, the ultimate compliment. It’s great to hear that there were connections made between people who maybe never knew each other or maybe had only chatted online.

There continue to be Twitter updates today from attendees talking about what they learned, speakers posting their slide decks for everyone to view and archive and more, meaning the one-day event wasn’t a self-contained event but just one point in the conversation flow, one that will hopefully continue for some time and lead to even more great connections, products and strategies.

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

Are you going to post links to all of the slides? I've found a few of them, but haven't located most of them (if they are even up). Especially from the Track 1 speakers.

Good idea. I'll update the posts on the sessions w/the links I find and create a new post to summarize. Thanks.

I agree. Y'all really know how to stretch a dollar! This was definitely worth the trip from Louisiana. I made many connections with other users and learned a lot. Thank you so much to everyone who put on this event and to all the developers who built WordPress and keep it running so smoothly!
